Empowering Local Entrepreneurs through Collaborative University Initiatives

On August 26 and 27, 2023, the Small Business Market Promotion Corporation (SBMPC) is hosting the ‘2025 Local Content Focused University Integrated Seminar’ at the Daejeon Convention Center and the Jeamin Stream area in Gongju. This initiative aims to foster local entrepreneurs by collaborating with universities that possess the determination to solve regional issues and develop local content capabilities. This year, the program sees participation from 14 universities across the nation, engaging in a variety of activities including curricular and extracurricular education, practical training, and performance sharing sessions.

The integrated seminar features a diverse lineup of sessions including keynote speeches, academic presentations, networking opportunities, and field explorations. More than 100 attendees, comprising professors, students from the 14 local content-focused universities, and local collaborating enterprises, are expected to join the event. The first day began with an opening address from Hwang Mi-ae, the executive director of SBMPC, followed by presentations of research cases from universities such as Gyeongsang National University and Kyung Hee University, and performance sharing from Chungnam National University, Seoul Institute of the Arts, and Keimyung University.

In an effort to promote community engagement, a roundtable discussion was held allowing all participants to deliberate on strategies for fostering a local startup ecosystem. Additionally, an exhibition zone was set up to showcase the achievements of the participating universities. The second day of the seminar will feature lectures from local entrepreneurs, sharing their experiences in leveraging regional resources. Participants will also engage in team-building activities and take part in a local site exploration around Jeamin Stream, aimed at uncovering innovative business ideas grounded in the community.

Park Sung-hyo, the director of SBMPC, expressed his hopes that the seminar would establish a collaborative model where universities, private sectors, and local communities can grow together, ultimately accelerating the innovation of the regional economy. This initiative underscores the importance of harnessing local resources and knowledge to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to the sustainable economic development of the region. The seminar not only serves as a platform for knowledge exchange but also fosters relationships that can lead to the creation of new opportunities for local startups, ensuring that the entrepreneurial spirit thrives within the community.
